March 6th #meetthemaker was about reducing waste. I was in a great workshop over the weekend with @katethompsonartist at @ephemerapaducah, so I’m still catching up on posting.⠀
️
There are two main things that I do that help reduce waste in my art practice. Last year for this prompt I wrote about how I do most of my drawing on my iPad these days, which definitely saves paper and ink.⠀
️
The other thing I do that limits waste is collect and use vintage and used items in my studio and in my work. I collect old wooden boxes, hangers and clipboards to display my work in my studio, my home and at shows. I store art supplies in old boxes and drawers. I collect old papers and fabric to use in my artwork.⠀
️⠀
The first image in my post is a piece in progress that I made in the workshop and is mostly old papers and fabrics.⠀

Sadly, I’m quite guilty of ordering things online and I know that creates a lot of waste through packaging and production of new items, but I hope that the use of old items counteracts that a bit.
