Paducah Life Magazine

Starting in April I participated in the worldwide #the100dayproject and learned to do repeat pattern designs and basically made one a day for 100 days. Posting them on Instagram every day as I was designing them got me some good attention and resulted in this beautiful article in Paducah Life Magazine. View a PDF of the entire...

Apparently I made a lot of patterns over the past 100 days! Here are 100 little images. Probably 85 or more are completed(ish) patterns and the rest are filled in with elements that will become patterns or are patterns in progress. This is my third time doing and I love it! It’s so good to help you get started if you’re having trouble getting yourself to make art (or whatever) regularly or to dive deep into one topic or theme or material or technique! I’ve loved doing these patterns over the past 100 days and I have no plans to stop. But now, instead of making new ones every day, I’m going to revisit my favorites, tweak them and turn them into collections. If anyone out there wants to license any or commission any illustrations or patterns, you know where to find...

Thanks to everyone who gave me input on this design. Sadly, I did not make it into the semifinals of the contest, but I got enough great feedback that I’m going to figure out how to make this into an actual journal and make it available for purchase...
Another cicada pattern

Another cicada pattern

Another cicada pattern. This started out with @smcnabstudio’s @skillshare class on creating a linear toss pattern, but then it got a crazy background.

My first attempt at a diagonal stripe pattern.

My first attempt at a diagonal stripe pattern. I’m taking my third Skillshare class by Bonnie Christine, which is how I started learning to make in Illustrator. When I first learned more than 25 years ago at SCAD, it was by cutting and taping paper together. This is so much easier technically… although still hard to do well design-wise. You can see how wonky my stripes are! I’ll just pretend it was...
